There are a few steps you can take to email your professor when you miss an exam. You first need to get his email, then explain the situation, send the email and wait for a response from your professor.

Why Email Your Professor When You Miss An Exam?

When you miss an exam it can be tempting to just let it go without saying anything to your professor. If you missed your exam because of some nonsense, it may be best not to say anything because you’ll only make your professor angrier. However, if you missed your exam for a good reason it is important to say why and let your professor know plus also let him know that it won’t happen again.

You’re going to have to not only convince yourself but convince your professor to trust you and give you another shot at the exam. Exams are usually very important grades because they make up a larger percentage of your overall grade. There are a few steps you need to take to email your professor when you miss an exam.

If you follow these steps closely, you will be able to email your professor when you miss an exam. By emailing your professor, you can explain yourself and possibly be allowed to take your test;

Find Professor’s Email

The very first thing you want to do is go to your classroom syllabus and see if you can find your instructor’s email. You can’t send an email to your professor if you don’t know the email address. This should be easy to find and it usually is but you may have to really do some looking and deep diving into the class syllabus.

Once you have found the professor’s email, you should copy and paste the email into a new email and start typing your response.

Explain Your Situation

You should explain your situation to your professor. He will be more likely to understand if you are straight up with him and come straight out and tell him why you missed the exam. Let me tell you, it does not and will not help your case to tell a lie.

This will make you look really bad and when you ask for pardon your professor may not want to give it after learning that your story was a lie. There comes a point in everyone’s life where you have to tell the truth and it hurts. The truth doesn’t always feel good but if you want people to trust you, that is exactly what you have to do.

In this email, as I said, you want to be open and honest. If you had a family emergency or experienced some sort of sickness, say that. Or even if you had car trouble and couldn’t make it to school on time, let him know. It does you more justice to tell the truth and ask your instructor for a second chance.

Ask for Second Chance

You missed your exam so you will need to make the test up, if possible. By your being honest about what happened and why you actually missed the exam, your teacher may be more lenient with you. Ask him if you can have another chance to take your exam.

Be sure to explain why the situation happened and how it will never happen again. Of course, don’t make any promises that you can’t keep but you can do your best to make sure nothing like this happens again.

Send the Email & Wait

After including everything that you need to include in the body of the email you should send the email and wait on a response. This could be the hardest part because you are anxious and really want to know what your professor is going to say about you missing the exam. I can’t say for sure that you’ll get a positive response.

You can hope for a positive response but that doesn’t mean you are going to get one. Wait patiently for your professor to respond to your email, you may be surprised at what he says.
